What is your preference - the elderly or children? If you love it, with the elderly, nursing homes, resource persons and palliative care if you think you can manage. Otherwise, try your local hospitals.

Membership in a local Kiwanis Club. It is an international organization of volunteers changing the world one child and one community at a given time.

You can have the greatest impact on their communities to do things that you want. Your Volunteer Center will help you find the community projects and to help charitable organizations in your area, make a difference in their community.

Here are a few links to get started:

http://national.unitedway.org

There are several ways that you help by making a donation, time, services or goods. Your Volunteer Center can not communicate with the local-profits that need help.

Good luck!

I suggest one of the organizations of the Coalition of the Homeless in Louisville.

34% of the homeless in Louisville lost their homes due to job loss.

29% of people in homeless shelters in Louisville to work.

23% of people living in shelters in Louisville has a university degree.

1 of 24 children in public schools in Jefferson County are enrolled homeless.

The number of homeless veterans in Louisville is 19%.

If I you, I would be by starting at a VA nursing home. You will see that most of the time, they are very clean and do not smell like the most. You have to forget our heroes of yesterday. Many of these heroes have families, but they visit. It is really sad. If you are there after one day and heard stories that play still. I offered as many hours in my local VA nursing home and my child. He loves to push the wheelchair. They love it. You should see all your shining eyes.
